Yenisei CLIGetting started
First steps
How to start the assistant in a project folder, give it a first task and control the input.
The assistant works in the folder you start it from; that folder becomes its
working folder. Go to your project folder, run yenisei and describe the task
the way you would explain it to a colleague.
Starting in a project folder
cd ~/projects/my-project
yenisei
The header at startup shows the model, plan, folder and account
The header shows the model, plan, folder and account.
Giving a task
Describe what needs to be done and send the task with Enter. For example:
- "Explain how this project is organized."
- "Find where the password is checked and add a length check."
- "Run the tests and fix whatever fails."
- "Read contract.pdf and list all the deadlines."
While the assistant is working, you can add a clarification: it will take it into account at the next step. Ctrl+C stops the work, and the conversation is kept, so you can refine the task and continue.
Typing a task
- A task on several lines. Shift+Enter starts a new line, Enter sends the whole task. Continuation lines start with "…". Multi-line text pasted from the clipboard also stays a single task: you can add to it and send it with Enter.
- Canceling input. Ctrl+C in the middle of typing cancels the whole task.
- Command hints. Type
/and matching commands appear in gray; the list narrows with every letter. Tab completes the command. The list of commands is on the Conversation commands page.

Where Shift+Enter works
Shift+Enter works in iTerm2, kitty, Ghostty, Windows Terminal and the regular Windows console window. In WezTerm, VS Code and Cursor it works if the kitty keyboard protocol is enabled in their settings. In the standard macOS Terminal this key sends the task; a new line there comes from pasting from the clipboard or from Option+Enter, if "Use Option as Meta key" is enabled in Terminal settings.
Exiting the program
The exit command quits the program, even in the middle of a task. quit,
выход and /exit work the same way.
Continuing a conversation
Conversations are stored separately for each folder. To continue the previous
one, start the assistant with the --continue flag:
yenisei --continue
